I haven't found any feature that can produce this result yet so I would like to suggest it.

Within Windows Live Messenger there is the feature to be able to search for a contact within one's Contact List. This could be done by either Nickname, Email, or even Personal Messages.

I'm not sure how hard this would be to implement but it would be an awesome improvement to this program.

This feature is currently under development will presumably be releaded in Adium 1.2

Actually, although not the same, if you click on adium contact list and start typing, it will perform a "search as you type" kind of. If you know the contact name, you'll end up on top of it. Press Return/Enter and you can send him a msg.

A bit late of a reply but this method is almost what I'm after. It's great when I want to message someone but a search bar in the contact list would still be preferred if I just wanted to find a contact to look at their contact card.

1.3 has a search functionality for the contact list, among a billion other changes.

I like the new search in 1.1.3 but is there a way to have the search appear when not in the regular window style? I currently use group bubble style & it's not possible to access the search bar.

No, not currently. Exactly how to handle extra functionality (search, quick status change, etc...) in borderless list styles is still an unanswered question.

I guess I'll have to give this feature a pass for a while longer then.
