Adium Connection Error - Go AWAY PLEASE!!!

Post by Fusion »

For the longest time I've dealt with the same exact issue with Adium... in fact I think I've had the same problem with it since around the time it was first started.

I use a laptop, like many other Mac users out there. I often go to places with no internet connectivity and do work.

When I open my laptop... every freakin time there is no connectivity, Adium throws a connection error at me. I KNOW IT CAN"T CONNECT>>> I'M NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET... AHHHHHH!

I want to use Adium so badly, and every time I have to switch back to iChat. I really do encounter this problem at least 6 times a day and it gets ridiculous.

Is there ANY way possible to just get rid of these errors. I can tell if Adium can't connect, there won't be any open eyes in the dock... I don't need a stupid error box on top of that.

GRRRRRRRRR.

A workaround would be to manually disconnect Adium before you put your laptop to sleep so it won't try to connect when it wakes up again.

I understand that but that seems incredibly silly to me. Especially since usually when I close my laptop, I'm unaware of specifically where/when I will open it again and whether or not that time/place will have an internet connection.

iChat seems to have no problem with this, if it can connect, it does. If it can't, it doesn't. And it seems to listen for a connection because then when I do get connectivity, it connects automatically in the background. It "just works."

Would this just be incredibly hard for Adium to implement? Even having a hidden preference to just disable all error messages would be grand.. but even better than that, having iChat's behavior of listening for a connection and just connecting when it can would be so fabulous I'd cry.

Are you using Adium 1.1?

The Tick,

Yes I am... but I should mention that this has been an issue as far back as I cam remember, at least .5.

And it's been on every mac notebook that I've owned.

The last time I brought it up, I think it was you or one of the devs asked me to post some connection log... and then no one ever responded after that.

Any ideas?

I haven't had this problem on any of my laptops since .7x or .8x, which is why I was asking
