Feature request: send SMS message

Postby Sean » Sun Sep 09, 2007 9:37 pm

Leopard iChat has a feature in it's menus to send SMS message:

Now this functionality has apparently been there for years on AIM (and thus iChat/Adium too), but it was not obvious at all how to do it - not user friendly.

I am proposing a GUI for it like iChat 4.0 will have. Especially with the popularity of the iPhone among Mac users, seems like now would be a good time to add it. Most of the work is already done it seems, this would just be making a useful feature more visible.

Thanks

Hey, there is a really promising project called Luscious SMS which supports plugins for any kind of SMS gateway and also provides an easy to use plugin designer.
I always thought it would be really cool if Adium supported Luscious SMS' plugins so you can send SMS through Adium using your local provider of choice.
Maybe that would be a cool feature for the future.

I am pretty sure that if you enter +1 and then the phone number of the recipient (no spaces), Adium will send the SMS...

Yeah I know of this functionality now, but it's not obvious at all. This wasn't about adding SMS messaging functionality (since it already exists), but adding a GUI for it.
