Hi,
I'm not so sure that this is a bug in Adium (which is why I'm not posting in trac) but I've noticed that I can't get it to connect an MSN account using a proxy server reliably , sometimes it'll work but for most of the time it won't.
I managed to get the official MSN client (6.0.3) working without any changing of settings but I'm a bit miffed I can't make all my new uni friends semi jealous of Adium, plus I miss the ease of use it has compared to the offical client.
I can provide details and log files if needed
Thanks for looking
James
Proxy servers and Adium MSN...
Latest Stable (but can replicate with the 1.2SVN) using the normal settings for MSN, it's configured to use "Systemwide proxy settings", not sure what kind of proxy (It may well be Squid) but I don't have any kind of administrative access to it because it's the universities. Instead of it working it just refuses to connect. What version of Adium are you using? What settings are you using for MSN and for the proxy server? What type of proxy server? What happens instead of it working?
I've submitted a ticket about it here: http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/8168
I had this same problem - could connect to MSN with the official client, however Adium (and other clients based of libpurple) wouldn't connect.
Not sure if this work for anyone else, but I found a app called 'Authoxy' fixed this problem for me. It's a bit of a pain to set up, and it's not 100% okay with Leopard (the pref pane is a bit dodgy but the actual background process works fine).
You can find authoxy here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10899
Hope that helps!
EDIT: I forgot to say, it's very important you read the Read me file found on the disk image! You have to change some network settings (I recommend creating a new network location for Authoxy)
