Some little problems with multichat and file transfer

I haven't found another topic about this problems, so I'll post here...
I use often multichat. Sometimes I have to have different multichat with different groups of person, but when the second multichat begins, all the contacts will be groupped into a single multichat, and I can't understood in witch one i'm talking.
That's a known problem? It's really annoying for me...
The problem is that often i'm invited to these multichat without asking anything, so i can't refuse if another multichat is taking place...
The other problem is with file transfer.
0.8b5 is really wonderful now, but it still doesn't work with AIM clients...
I can't transfer file from Adium user to iChat user. It's very annoying switching from Adium to iChat only to transfer a file...

It's only my problem?
In the future we can have file transfer as a little part of the chat window, maybe sliding, instead of the floating window? I think it would be cool

Or maybe a simple borderless window, customizable (trasparence, color, always on top...) would be prittier!
Anyway, Adium rules!

okay.. i've been experiencing this too, but I can't remember which version. i think it was well before 0.77. which version are you using now? the beta? what MAY help is having NO individual chats with those multi-chat people at the moment of beginning the multi-user chat...

i don't have had any problems so far. are you using the OSX firewall? or a router which may be blocking things? i might be wrong and it may work in some cases only, we should test. only problem i'm having is an adium crash when someone cancels their filetransfer on me...

sliding is no option in regard to multiple filetransfers, more users in the same window etc etc. but i must agree that something can be changed to make it prettier or something. i gave it some thougth and came up with a slider, but that's a no go when you see the problem of multiple transfers in the first place (unless they que :d) etc etc... so.. more thougth to it.

I use both 0.77 and 0.8b5. I tried to do what you suggested, but it doesn't work. It happens even if the person who invite me in the second multi-user chat isn't in the first one. If I have only one multi-user chat, it works fine

I have no firewall. At university I have a router, but it doesn't work also at home, where I have no router or something else. Do you know what ports are allowed to file transfer for aol service? Maybe if I change the port number...
Anyway, thanks a lot

the AIM file transfer ports are 5190-5200
I opened them a while ago, and it doesn't seem to effect the success rate of file tranfers. I can receive files all the time, but I have never been able to send a file successfully...

Well my situation is very specific and it's clear to me that it's an issue with either GAIM or AdiumX. While at work I am able to send/receive files with ease while using iChat or the standard AIM client to/from any user in my building. When I run AdiumX I can send files with no issue, but I cannot receive.
When a user sends me a file, I see the prompt for incoming and click save, but then it just shows "pending" forever and nothing happens. This is using 0.77 and 0.8b5. The minute I switch back to iChat, everything works fine. It's obviously not a firewall issue if AIM and iChat can handle it, so what's the issue and will it ever be fixed?
Thanks!

yeah, its definately an issue with AIM on Adium. Jabber File transfers have always worked flawlessly for me.

So the natural question now is: does anyone know if there is a plan to fix this issue or identify the bug in the future? Or is this just a fact of life when using a 3rd party IM client like this?
Just to note: Trillian (a Windows 3rd party client) works fine in the same circumstances.

i assume they are gonna work on it, since adium didn't used to have support for it anyway and it does have some to some extent. but i guess it will be improved over time.

You really need to talk to the libgaim folks about file transfers, not us. We use libgaim to do all these protocol-specific things, so we can only be as good as their code. They know there are problems, but it's also not easy to fix.

Okay, good to know - thank you for your response. I'll post something for them.

I too have had problems transfering files to both MSNmac, and ichat.
On my side it says sending file, on my partners cube it just says awaiting file transfer.
How can I force the file through?
She accepts the file, but Adium doesn't seem to follow though and send it.
I noticed you can drag an image into the text box (just like ichat), but it does not show on the recieving end.
Why show it on my side when it isn't going to show on the other side?
Or is this a preference setting I have wrong?

You can't exchange files between Adium and msn for mac. The official msn client for os x is.... lacking in features, and only has an older version of the msn file transfer protocol. As I recall, anyway.
You can swap files with msn for Windows, or any other libgaim-based clients.

Ah, that explains that.
Thanks!
sadly my ibook power supply just gave up the ghost, so it will take a few days to get a new one, and resume my tests on file transfer to ichat.
I think it may be a setting on either the recieving side or sending side.
I hope I am not annoying anyone too much my posting.

Son of a Preacher Man is actually wrong. There are two MSN file transfer methods. All clients support either the slow one, or both the slow and the fast one. Unfortunately, libgaim doesn't support the fast one yet, so we're stuck using the slow method.
Firewalls, routers, etc. could be the reason your files don't go through. We can't tell if a file doesn't go through (it looks as if the other end is waiting to accept it).

Actually, Son of a Preacher Man is right, and dchoby is ALSO right, sort of.
There are
three MSN transfer protocols.
1) Ancient protocol. Supported by all official MSN clients as far as I'm aware. Not supported by any 3rd party client I know of -- definitely not supported by Adium / libgaim / gaim.
2) Old protocol. Supported by the PC MSN client and by all 3rd party clients, including Adium; not supported by the Mac MSN Client which only supports (1). Slower than (3) because it routes through the MSN server. Also more reliable because of this.
3) Newest protocol. Supported by the PC MSN client. Not supported by Adium. Fastest because it does direct connections. Less reliable as a result.
