Import Proteus logs?

There was a discussion about this in the old forum about updating the Proteus log converter that is included with the Adium source... and I believe someone said, "I'm working on it".

Is there any news or update to this? I've switched over to Adium 100% and would *love* to get my old Proteus logs into Adium once and for all...

http://www.visualdistortion.org/misc/pr ... ter.tar.gz

open up a terminal, change to the directory you downloaded it, and type

./proteus2adium.pl

Everything should be cool

Okay, i want to change my proteus logs over to adium as well. But I have no idea how to do what you said. I downloaded that site, but now I am stuck and don't know where to go, could you give me more details. don't assume i know anything - I'm kinda new to the world of Macs (but i love it!)

Thanks

1) Open Terminal.app in /Applications/Utilities/
[ a window, called a terminal window, will open with a 'prompt' ]
2) Type cd Desktop - hit Return
[ this is if you have the file on your Desktop ]
3) Type ./proteus2adium.pl - hit Return
[ the magic should then happen, I assume ]

These are the steps, whether it works or not I have no idea as I've never had to import from Proteus :D

it said

./sqlite: error: /Users/xxxxx/desktop/.libs/sqlite does not exist
This script is just a wrapper for sqlite.
See the libtool documentation for more information.
eBert:~/desktop xxxxx$

the xxxxx is my name, I just wanted to hide it.

I have a feeling I know what you did.

I'm guesing you moved the script from the proteus/ file to the Desktop.

Move it back, or delete the proteus folder and double click the proteus_importer.tar.gz file.

Then, from a Terminal window:

1) cd ~/Desktop/proteus/
2) ./proteus2adium.pl

Wave your arms wildly in the air. Bonus points if you get a weird look from someone else in the room.

Well, I'm waving my arms... but not in the right way.

You were right, that is what I did with the file moving. Everything seems to be working until i need to enter my jabber user name - Is there a way I can skip this step? I closed Terminal down without copying what it says  sorry. But it is something about there not being a screen name like that... I did type it in right, and several other ways.

I can live without my jabber convos. transferring over so can I just skip that?

You're going to have to give the error; this script doesn't do anything fancy like validate usernames. It should copy exactly what you typed.

There is a log importer from proteus to Adium in the SVN

hey guys, just ran this puppy.
Everything seemed to work, it was churning away in the terminal. But when I check my adium logs nothing new is there... I took a look in proteus and none of my msg archives are showing up, but I looked in the data folder and the History.db file is there and it is fully populated. Don't know what the deal is. Any suggestions??

Also anyone know how to convert the regular msn client history files over to adium?

Thanks

The logs show up in the same folder you ran the script in in folders called AIM.username or MSN.username.

These can be manually copied to Adium's log folder; it should be pretty self explanatory where they go once you find the rest of Adium's logs.

I feel really stupid, but i still can't get it to work. It keeps getting caught up on the Jabber thing. I really want to at least transfer my aim and msn logs over... the rest I can do without.

And in case it by random chance works could someone specify where the files should be put? It is going to be the default place 'cause I wouldn't dare move it.

ha, I didn't even think about checking the folder that is was run out of, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the help.

btw I read some thread that said the source code has a script to import history from the Microsoft client. Is that true?

sorry one more thing...

when i manually add the files into the right folders, they show up in the Adium logs, but they all are lumped under todays date... is that how its supposed to work? The files are .html and all the original ones are .adiumlog is that something to do with it?

thanks again

Well, I believe we group files based on their creation date -- so that could have something to do with it. I could be wrong though.
