adium won't sign on when clicked

Hi Guys! I'm new here to the forums and I am having a slight problem with Adium at this moment. When I click the Adium dock icon (Mine is the cool Link duck..haha), it will not automatically connect to my AIM. In the preferences, I clicked "automatically connect when Adium is opened" and it still won't do it. I have to do it manually. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks again!

No, that's what I mean. So DSL or Cable, you're not sure?

Do you have a router? A wireless router? A firewall?

Well, when I'm at my dorm/apartment I have DSL with a wireless router and it works perfectly fine there. But when I'm back at home for the weekend, I connect to a random neighbor's internet connection wirelessly (most like cable because my area isn't offered DSL). And here at home, is where I open Adium and it won't connect when I click it - the program will open but I have to press "connect" when in the preferences I clicked "connect when Adium opens".
