Custom ICQ statuses

Post by MuF »

hi,
is there any plugin to make adium support custom (eXtra) ICQ statuses?
e.g. miranda already supports these custom icq statuses.

can adium see custom status of other icq user?
can adium set my own custom icq status, so others can see it?

thank you.

Just type in the message you want to display; modern ICQ clients will see it.
The duck still burns.

libpurple that seems to be used for Adium really sucks. I have just switched to Mac Os from Linux and there was the same problem with Pidgin - libpurple developers spend lots of time to really useless protocols such as MSN etc and ICQ is still supporeted very bad and I doubt we will ever see such features as X-Statuses or Remote Client detection supported in libpurple (there are a lots of patches in Linux community but developers do not want to commit them).

The only way I see is to fork libpurple and do this by hand. It is lucky to be GPLed.

Hi Staim,
four things:
1. ICQ is just as bad as MSN.
2. The developers have been heavily criticised for giving MSN the least attention.
3. MSN has a lot more users than ICQ. Worldwide, ICQ is a marginal phenomenon.
4. Why fork and not just help out, contribute patches, join the team?

1. Yeah, the Jabber is the best, but ...
2. ... I have about 200 Icq contacts in my list and only 8 from jabber ...
3. And No One in MSN! Maybe MSN is not spread widely only in my country ...
4. There are already patches for 2 things I really lack in libpurple for ICQ - it is X-Statuses and Remote Client detection.

They are:

http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/4508
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/499

But it was many releases of libpurple and this patches still not included...

I was searching the Google and found that idea of forking Pidgin is not new ... Pidgin developers are known for their conservative behavior, so there already was fork named FunPidgin later renamed to Carrier. But there was no MacOs version and the project seems to be dead. :(
