I have been testing user icons lately and found out this.

While using AIM service user icon quality drops. You probably cannot notice it while using normal painted picture, but I tried photo. If I send message from Adium to iChat, photo quality of user icon decrease. If I do the same test with iChat/iChat communication photo quality of user icon stays the same. I didn't have the opportunity to test Adium/Adium communication yet.

So for now Im just sure that for some reason while communicating over AIM between Adium and iChat, quality of user icon decreases. While just between the iChat clients, it does not.

Tried to check the bug tracker but haven't found it, so reporting here.

Used photos with 369x369 pix, later 75x75 and at the end 50x50. All with same result, decrease of quality.

Using 10.4.11, Adium version 1.1.4.

Try the beta of 1.2 (beta.adiumx.com). We fixed a number of icon pixelation issues, although theoretically they only occurred on Leopard so it's possible the issue you're seeing is unrelated.

Tested with latest beta - same result.

Did test with Adium/Adium communication - same result, icon quality is decreasing.

I should add Im running on G4 machine.
