Problems with emoticons

Hi, i'm using Adium and when i chat with other people that don't use Adium the emoticons doesn't work, because they can see them as i can, they just see text.

does anybody know what happen?

The only protocol that supports sending emoticons is MSN, and Adium doesn't support that part of MSN.
