How can you remove the picture for a contact?

Thanks.

It depends on the type of contact. For a service like Yahoo! where the service provides the picture you can override it with your own picture. So you could set the picture to a blank image by doing a "get info" on the contact and double-clicking on the image to bring up the image picker.

For a service that doesn't automatically provide a picture you can do a "get info" on the contact, select their picture and hit the backspace key.

The current picture in the profile is one I added quite some time ago when I first insalled Adium. It is only in the Adium profile. The contact is a Yahoo account that has no profile picture. I modified the existing picture and was able to make it go away with the backspace key. But this just reverted back to the original image I wish to delete. I tried backspace on this image and it will not go away.

The only time I've seen an image stick around like this is if it's being sent to you by the IM service. In other words when you delete it from Adium Yahoo! tells Adium that the image of the contact should be the image that keeps coming back.

Found pervasive contact picture.

I found the source of the profile picture that I originally had provided but could not seem to delete.

Adium was picking up the profile picture I had put into Address Book. I deleted the image from the users Address book entry that solved the problem.

You can turn off that behavior in Preferences->Advanced->Address Book.
