Strange "you've got mail" message

Hey everyone,

Long time user, first time poster!

I just received a "you've got mail" message on Adium (v1.2.1) via my MSN account.

It's odd because I'm not registered with a Hotmail account - I actually signed up via a Postmaster account which I no longer use (Postmaster started charging last year, and I never renewed it because I didn't really use it).

The email sender and subject indicate spam, but it's odd - surely this message came from MSN's server? Have they been hacked somehow? Or is it just a random error?

I clicked "open mail in browser" and it directed me to an MSN page telling me I didn't have Hotmail (which makes sense!)

Thought I'd throw it out there to see what people thought.

The MSN server is indeed telling Adium you have mail with that account. I have no idea how.

I'm encountering this problem as well, it's been pretty active today in particular - three email notifications indicating my Hotmail account has a new message, but when I log in there's nothing there. Conversely, notifications of legitimate emails are very late to arrive, and sometimes never come...

Has this issue been resolved yet?

I'm using my own server and I'm seriously getting these popups every minute. It's gotten to the point where I'm about to stop using Adium because of it. If anybody knows how to disable this, PLEASE let me know!

Are you using Facebook? Then it's Facebook mail notification bug.
Two solutions:
1. deactivate Facebook in Adium and wait for 1.3.6
2. use the 1.4 beta (http://beta.adium.im).
