Adium suddenly degrading system performance

Over the past two or three days, I've started experiencing some annoying system performance problems which seems to be alleviated by quitting Adium.
With Adium running, mouse movement becomes jerky and twitchy...as if the cursor gets stuck on a spot and then suddenly releases. Windows no longer open or close smoothly. The whole display/UI slows down.
I've explored everything else I have running (usually, Adobe Illustrator CS, Safari 1.3.2, iTunes 7.5 and Adium 1.0.6. Sometimes Firefox 2, as well) and my problems clear-up as soon as I quit Adium.
I use Adium primarily to contact with friends on Yahoo. Using the Yahoo IM app doesn't cause the same problems.
The odd thing here is that I haven't touched Adium in months and, as I said, this problem arose about three days ago.
Mac OSX 10.3.9
Adium 1.0.6 (installed add-ons...Tokyo Train Station soundset, SunkenGems icons) I believe this is the last version that is compatible with 10.3.9.
The most recent system update was the latest QuickTime, including the x.1 version. Are there any known issues between Adium and the latest QT?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
