MSN won't connect

Hi all,

I've joined the forum in the hope that someone can help, after looking through the posts I can see similar problems but nothing the same. I'm running a G5 iMac (just the little 1.83 GHz Intel) with Leopard 10.5.2 and was satisfied using MSN Messenger. I then developed a problem, Messenger was telling me it couldn't connect to the server. In a bid to find the problem and on recommendation I downloaded Adium, which I have to say I much prefer the look of and would rather use than Messenger. After getting to the root of the problem I had (PeerGuardian.... suppressed shudder!) and deleting it, I found that MSN was working again, with both the old account and a new Hotmail account I set up. However, Adium still won't connect, it will work with my .Mac account (AIM), Yahoo and ICQ. I can't see the problem, does anyone know of, or has anyone heard of a similar problem and if there's a work around?

I can return to Messenger but as mentioned I much prefer the look of Adium, also I'm deeply suspicious of all things Microsoft and Windoze related.

Please help!

After searching through the "tickets" I see that this is a problem encountered by many people (specifically Ticket #9176) I wonder if that has anything to do with the lack of replies! The lst thing I want to do is come across as tick as t he ticket mentioned does seem to a solution. However, how the f**k to implement that solution?? I am no computer Luddite, but at the same time, I'm afraid I have no clue how to fix my copy of Adium....Please help me

Hi all, after moaning about the lack of response (post had only been up a day or 2, just frustrated, or is that the wife?) I had a think and tried a few things. There may be a solution involving extremely long lines of code and Terminal bug logs. I found, getting into my router's config via my web browser, taking note of the DNS Server IP's (2 of them in my case but can be up to 3 apparently). I then made a note of them and added them to Network Prefs (DNS tab). The routers IP address is there, I just added them underneath and hey presto Adium seems to work fine now!

Same thing here. Ran the update to 1.2.2 the other day and wish I hadn't. Now it just hangs while trying to connect to my MSN account and never connects to it. Hope a new update is out soon!

Tried that. Didn't work for me. Running OSX 10.4.11 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac laptop pro, 4 gigs SDRAM.

Everything worked fine before I ran this latest Adium update.

Seems to have queered something somewhere, because now I can't connect to my MSN account with Fire, which I used with no trouble before I switched to Adium...

I've been having the same hanging issues. I've food a reboot will let msn sign in once, until it disconnects. Using HTTP mode in Adium for MSN seems to work for a while, but then it will disconnect on me.

Does anyone know what the last version of Adium was that worked with msn properly?

I've been having this problem as well, for the last week or so. Here's the error I get in the console:

08/03/10 18:46:09 [0x0-0x4f04f0].com.adiumX.adiumX[11577] ** (process:11577): CRITICAL **: purple_url_encode: assertion `str != NULL' failed \

I hope this gets fixed soon, I really hate using the official MSN client...
