Username problem in Jabber chatrooms

When I'm in a jabber chatroom all message coming from me have my OS X user account name on them. I've tried setting an alias on the account and it has no effect. The most confusing part is Adium seem to hide this from me. Everything I see in the chat shows the alias I setup in the account settings. As do the Transcripts for the chat sessions. However, everyone else in the chat room sees my OS X user account name.

If I type "hi everyone", I'll see this:
dan
hi everyone
everyone else sees:
wolfpak
hi everyone
the transcripts show this:
10:23:21 AM dan: hi everyone
Note: This is only a problem in Jabber chat rooms. Person-to-person chats over jabber work fine.

I would love to solving this issue and I'm willing to work for it. Any tips on getting this resolved are appreciated.

-Thanks

What is shown next to 'Handle' in the join chat dialogue before you join the chatroom?

It displays "dan" in a light gray. While I had the dialog open I used it to connect to the chat room I regularly join. A quick test and it shows me correctly as "dan".

This is very interesting. I've been connecting to the same chat room every day using a bookmark I added to my contact list when I first setup Adium. After some testing and pondering it seems the bookmark was created before I set an alias for the account. After the alias was set, the bookmark apparently was not effected. Recreating the bookmark after using the join chat dialog seems to have solved the issue. A small loop-hole of a bug, this is. Can I file this as an official bug?

It's great when a simple question solves the problem. Thanks evands!

The handle is part of the information sent when joining the chat, so Adium saved that when you bookmarked the chat to be able to rejoin the same way later. We shouldn't save the handle like that if we're using the default value (the account's alias or name).

Don't need to file it; I've got a huge test tomorrow, so I'm avoiding work. Now fixed for Adium 1.3.
