Facebook got IM too!

Is Adium going to add this to it's compatibility list? I would love it!

Digsby now supports Facebook Chat:

I really hope Adium will catch up on this.

We don't plan to put any effort into it until they support XMPP; the open source community has spent far far too long already reverse engineering proprietary protocols. Other people are welcome to write a plugin, of course.

It really is a bit of a pity that Adium's development these days seems to be limited to bugfixes and minor feature improvements. Don't get me wrong, you are doing a great job with that and I love Adium as much as everybody. But it doesn't appear likely that we will ever see major stuff like audio/video support, new protocols (Skype, Facebook...) or a revised Log Manager. I wish more people would get involved to push things forward.

Adium 1.3 is the next major release and has been seeing tons of massive changes in the last 6 months.

Audio/video will hopefully happen in the near future (http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/VoiceAndVideo). Skype is not and will never be an option beyond the existing Skype plugin because it's not a reasonably reverse engineerable protocol. Facebook has promised XMPP support; with that promise on the table, it makes little sense to put effort into compatibility, though of course an interested party might do it anyways. What's wrong with the current Log Manager?

All that said, I wish more people would get involved to push things forward, too, though I think it's grossly unfair to say that development is limited to bugfixes and minor feature improvements... though even if that were true, it would hardly be an indictment, as Adium is at a stage in development that a walk sideways with improved stability is a great thing for it. If you have suggestions for increasing involvement, please let your voice be heard!

Haha, excellent. It was fun implementing the hacked-together plugin, which is most likely useless now; it's much nicer that facebook will be supporting open standards :)

It's a great plugin and very useful. Thanks so much! (who knows how quickly the facebook people will work anyways). I haven't seen it in an easy to download format, so if anyone wants to try it out on 1.2.X I uploaded it at:

Any chance of posting it somewhere that doesn't involve an insanely hard captcha?
