Connect to MSN via Adium at Uni

Post by tehstratocaster »

Hi There,

I hope this is posted in the correct forum, etc. Anyway, I am at a university and connect to the network / internet via wireless. My system specs are:

Macbook Pro (Mac OSX v10.5.2)
Processor 2.4

Now basically the problem is this:

Users who have Windows Live Messenger installed on their Windows PC's can connect no worries to the MSN network. Windows Live Messenger for Mac does not work connecting either by HTML protocol or by automatic. Therefore, I switched to Adium, and had no worries with my MSN connection once I change the login server to: messenger.hotmail.com and connect via http on port 1863. Unfortunatly I made the mistake of telling my friend about how you can connect to MSN via Adium and he used the same settings. Now for some reason only one of us can be on the MSN network at the same time without booting the other off. We have tried using different ports each, but to no avail.

This is a real pain as you can probably imagine. Has anyone else come across this problem? And if so, how did you fix it?

When I get really frustrated I resort to web-based IM, (for example meebo.com) but this is again a real pain in the @$$. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Odd. What error message do you get when your friend signs on and boots you off?
The duck still burns.
