My mac was having boot issues and I had to erase the partition and re-install OS X. I was restoring items from time machine and I went into the applications folder and tried to restore Adium. When I tried to launch it, it just crashes with the message "The application Adium quit unexpectedly" . It seems to never even finish launching.

I un installed it and tried re downloading and re installing. no help.
I looked into uninstalling and found an article that list the library folders etc that can be removed and non of them (the preferences etc.) exist. So they are never getting created.

I hope someone can help.

It turns out that it is some issue with my user account. I can create a new user account (and copy all of my stuff over to it (sigh)) and Adium works fine.

I had log in issues to. So I tried what was suggested earlier, doing the whole old preferences renaming thing and what not. Only now I lost all of my old adium preferences and I can't fix it. All of my chat transcripts are gone and I'm having to re-do everything. Is there a way to revert back to my old ways? Because this really sucks if not. I had a bunch of status's saved that are gone now, and it's a huge hassle. I wish I hadn't done the thing in the first place.

Also, it was a problem with my account, but I couldn't copy anything over.

Well, you could just rename the preferences back.. Thats the whole idea of renaming it - You hide it from Adium, so Adium resets.
