Ive just started using adium, version 1.2.5 mac
I find it a very frustrating program
Particularly the fact that every new message that comes in gets selected by the application.
So I can be typing to one contact and a message comes in from another contact and the application switches to it automatically!!!
No application should do this, how do i stop it, ive looked through everything in the preferences and unchecked everything that looks relevant and yet its still happening, I cant understand why any messenger would even consider a feature like this it is soooo annoying

can anyone help please ?

This should never happen, do you have any steps to reproduce it? I've never seen it.

i know what the problem is, i have a script that runs in the background and uses the command
do shell script {"open -a Adium"}
it actually has a variable where Adium is as it doesnt just send the command to this one program.... long story.
anyway, sending this command when there are unread messages, makes the unread messages selected. problem kinda solved however this should NEVER happen and doesnt happen with yahoo instant messenger, fire, proteus or any other one i have used or do use.

also now i seem not to be able to connect both of my yahoo accounts in adium, last night it wouldnt let me connect either, kept saying password and login ident were wrong and yet they are not and yahoo instant messenger will connect no problem on either account. im wondering if i need to set up either port forwarding or port triggering for adium...

i downloaded, installed and ran adium.
i imported my accounts from "fire"
it didnt do a very good job of importing, i had to manually set up icq, msn and aim.
it imported my contacts from all three of those and yahoo and set the yahoo accounts up.
however since it didnt set up icq, msn or aim up i tried importing about 2 more times and ended up with multiple yahoo accounts with identical settings.
i then exited the auto set up, tried to delete the extraneous yahoo accounts and tried to set up the the other 3 accounts.
it still has yahoo identities that are multiple in different folders which it wont let me delete, ive had to put them into a new folder to hide them.
since then ive had this problem of the chat windows switching from one to another when i dont want it to.
i guess if it is not meant to do that, then the import facility for "fire" didnt work very well for me ?

what do you think ?

I've experienced this too. I'm running Adium 1.2.5 on OS X 10.5.3 (intel if that matters anymore) iMac. I've disabled adium in GROWL, and disabled everything but sounds in the "Events" tab in the preferences.

Here are the triggers I've observed.
1) If I have a message window minimized and I get a new message from a different contact, and have the contact list up but in the background, the message window pops up.
2) If I have a new message waiting in a minimized message window from an existing conversation with the contact list up but in the background, and click on the contact list, the message window pops up.
3) same as number one but with the contacts list closed.

There may be more scenarios but I cant really test it with Adium in the foreground and I am testing via yahoo web. If there is anything I can post as far as configurations or such please let me know.
