Screen name flashing red??

What does it mean when a screen name is flashing right in the contact list? To be precise, it's the background around the screen name that's flashing, not the screen name itself. I've seen it a couple of times, but don't know what it means.

that almost sounds like a setting you have to show that the contact has an unread message for you. it should be some where in the appearance settings i think

I guess that's it, but I don't have any messages from this contact. I can double click it and it just shows and empty window ready for me to type in. And it flashes until I restart adium... Why does it do that??
