How integrated is Adium with Apple's address book? Can Adium display online status in Apple Mail like iChat can?

Adium offers integration with Apple's Address Book.app. To activate it you go to Preferences --> Advanced, then click on Address Book in the left column. This will give you the options for Adress Book intergration.

Import my contacts' names from the Address Book searches through Address Book for any contacts that have information entered in the IM field, then Adium will switch the contacts default account nickname to the name inside Adress Book.

Use Address Book images as contacts' icons makes any contact with a matching Adress Book entry and no contact image use the image determined inside Adress Book. If you enabled "Even if the contact already has a contact icon" Adium will replace the contacts current icons. Overwrite Address Book images with contacts' icon will replace any matching Address Book entry's image with the one currently being used by Adium.

Consolidate contacts listed in the cards will create meta-contacts automatically for you if a contact has more then one instant messenger account listed inside Address Book.
