I did read the trac on this that Adium does not support adding other protocol adresses to msn. But i DO have a bunch of contacts with yahoo.com, gmail.com, msn.com etc on my msn-list and i always used adium. So it has been able to do it the other way around. They add me.
As of recent people with yahoo dont seem to be able to add me. That is i dont get a prompt. "This contact wants to add you to his/her list". Anyone else having this problem or is it more likely to be a problem between me and my buddy's clients?
Of course, you can add MSN contacts with email addresses that not end with @hotmail.com .
It's just that MSN<->Yahoo interoperabilitiy hasn't been implemented, yet. See #5610.
MSN is just the protocol and you can register whatever email you want to use with it so you can have @yahoo.com, @gmail.com or whatever and it's still a MSN account.
It is possible for Yahoo users to add MSN users and for MSN users to add Yahoo users though but the implementation for Yahoo and MSN is too old to allow this at the moment in Adium but this will hopefully be possible in Adium 1.4. (MSNP15 and Yahoo improvement for Pidgin SoC2008)
