"User missing from addressbook [sic]"

Post by mattrobs »

This message has recently plagued me every time I connect to my MSN account:

I don't care about this particular contact. I've tried deleting, re-adding this contact to no avail. The message will pop up either way. I'm not really sure what the error is. Which is out of sync, the local or server contact list? What can I do?

Help appreciated.

Are you using 1.3.1 or 1.3.2?
Is the contact a LCS/Office messenger contact?
Does the user "work", do you see him/her online etc?

Try to delete the contact then reconnect before readding it.

Oh sorry, how ignorant of me. It's 1.3.2.

They're just a standard MSN user.

The email's no longer in use, so I wouldn't know.

Still no improvement. :[

If the contact doesn't use it any longer why don't just remove it?

That's my point. It is removed. But this message persists.

Do a backup of your ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0 and then delete ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default/libpurple/blist.xml. This will force Adium to redownload the server stored contact lists.

I seem to be getting the same problem. I've tried deleting the blist.xml file as said here, but it hasn't worked. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Edit: Fixed this problem by opening MSN on my boot camp partition and deleting the offending email address from the list of blocked contacts.

@ Milty

I tried quiting Adium, deleting blist.xml and restarting Adium. The problem persists. I have WinXP on Parallels but I don't have MSN or any form of IM installed there. What should I do?

Adium menu -> Privacy Settings... will show you the block list so just remove it from there.

I am having the same problem, and can confirm that the user it is mentioning has been deleted from my account. Logging into Meebo does not show them as being on my contact list, and deleting the blist file seems to have no effect. My account it set to allow anyone to contact me, but does not even show the user in the list when the setting to only allow certain users is selected.

I plan to try checking if MSN Messenger will show the contact anywhere next.

Edit: I have found the user in my blocked list via Windows Live Messenger for Windows. Adding the person to my "allow" list seems to have stopped the message. I find it odd that Adium would show me such a message for someone in my blocked user list :\

I've been getting this since 1.3.2 as well. Quite annoying, and definitely a regression.
