Global Shortcut and Function Keys

Hello,
When I try to set the global shortcut to any function key, I get a window telling me that it's already in use for a system or the key is simply ignored, in the later case I don't get any feedback, nothing happens.
I checked in the Keyboard & Mouse preferences and the f-key I tried to use are free, I can even set the same f-keys to any function, so they are free.
I'm using v 1.3.2 on Mac OS X 10.5.5. Any idea?
