I have tried file transfer several times, and it says it completed the transfer, but i can't find it when I go to the place i sent it.
I was trying to use it as a device to email a contact without going to the mail site. Can I initiate an email from inside Admium?

You can't initiate an email from within Adium. Adium by default sets your download folder as the default receiving folder. Check Adium's preferences, specifically the "General" section to see what the directory is set to. By initiate do you mean send an email address like blah@blah.com and it opens up Mail.app?
