Maybe i missed a point, but I don't think it's possible to group all offline contacts together, instead of having each one in his own group which can be quite annoying

if your annoyed by offline contacts go to view then uncheck show offline contacts

This would kill inline editing.

Maybe The_Tick,
would be possible to group them "inside" thier own group...
so you would have something like..
Code: Select all
- MSN-->Group
Name
name
Name
- MSN-->Group (offline)
Name
Name
Name
this when both "group" is open
Code: Select all
- MSN -->Group
name
name
name
+MSN -->Group (offline)
this is when of the offline group is closed
thanks

Can't do that either, Breaks manual sorting.

I makes life harder too. And it take up more space for the buddy list. You now have offline at the bottom of each group.

@The_Tick,
Understood,...but when person is the window layout "normal window"..
if would be possible..or still too hard...with sorting out. Because when grouped they should be a the buttom..
@wunderwood
If you have group/contact bubbles..yes you're right it will take alot of space...but if you have "normal" window layout ..won't make a different

....
just wondering..
and why I want something like this is,
because ...I'm 24/7 online...I go to school at back and still I'm online..
And I want to know who was online when I was at school...
You guys have..now.."last seen on..."...option...when someone is offline...but for me to read that..I have to always chose "show offline contact"....and then go through all the contacts to find what i want to see...if there was a group..I would know faster because I just have to open the group and done

..
thanks

And why not offer the ability to make "clever" groups, as in iPhoto or Itunes, a group that is no longer static.
You should define your group for example "people who were online within the last 24 hours"
Adding a clever group would first open a window with different options for the conditions that could be
"people who I talked with since..." and choose the date
"people who I Had more than" x lines of conversation (would check the logs)
ect...
It should duplicate people from "static" groups because if a user wants to talk to someone in particular it could take too long.
I think that would be really inovative, as long as no messenger client has this feature.

Wow, this is a very intriquing idea! If this would be possible in Adium then I think this would utterly and defiantly destroy all of Adium's competition.

:twisted: But seriously, I can't believe I've never thought about this before, it would definitely be uber-cool!

This would be great, indeed. It wouldn't interfere with your actual groups at all, just like smart folders or playlists or albums don't mess with the other/real ones ("real" at least pertaining to smart folders vs. real folders in Finder 10.4).
Smart groups would be locked, so buddies couldn't be dragged in or out of them. Any flaws?

but with smart groups people would constantly change group! that would be irritating. or will the person in the smart group be an 'alias' to the contact in the normal group?

by sousben
it MUST be an alias to the contact! There would be two kinds of groups, smart groups (dynamic) and static groups
you can for example choose which type of group it would be when you create one

Oh yeah, it would definitely be an alias. It would be rough to have the original contact moving all around the place, lol
