problem with contact list

When I launch Adium (1.3.2) I cannot see the contact list. I then select View -> Show All Contacts and it appears in the usual place, then I select View -> Hide Certain Contacts and it properly displays the online contact. Any ideas why I have to select show all before I can see any? I have tried deleting Window Positions.plist.
