Contacts in Adium ... all in a stack in Leopard !!

Post by mgpg89 »

Wouldn't this be great?

A folder (stack when put in the dock) which contains all online contacts in Adium.
If you click a contact (icon of the person's face) it opens a chat window with that particular person in Adium.

Is it possible to program something like this?

It might be possible but I haven't heard of any plans to do this.
There are many other things on the imaginary list.

This is the closest I can come to using a stack. I use the Dock theme, which looks mostly like face icons. Also if you show groups in the list you get a small twisty to click on to show or hide the group, which is kinda like like clicking on a dock folder to show a stack.

Everyone who's interested, check the attachment.
Inside the .zip archive, there's an Automator workflow.

Open the app with 'Automator'. Then enter the IM Address in the top text field when you open the app with Automator (important you enter it correctly without any additional spaces etc)

If you run the application after you saved it, it SHOULD open an Adium chat window with that person.

1) you can use 'img2icns' (free download) to change the icon of the app to the face of the person.
2) I can't seem to find a way to group only the people who are online at that specific time.
(maybe a smart folder/search ? but what would the criteria be then?)

Anyone got any ideas to make this workflow any better?
Anyone has other ideas to accomplish this a bit more easy?

Mind you I have no programming skills whatsoever, so I'm hoping someone comes along who does so we can forget about this whole Automator thing ... Unless there's a way of instantly launching the window using Automator, but I have yet to discover that.

Thanks in advance

(btw, you can change the icon of the app to display the contact's face using a free application called img2icns, providing you have a picture of that person of course)
