My Adium can't display avatar pictures of contacts using WLM9. Although it displays all the pictures from users using previous versions than WLM9.

Is this only my problem or this feature isn't supported by Adium?

If WLM 9 is the newest, this might be a problem, yes.

I'm not the only one experiecing this issue.

Ok it's not a big surprise. Microsoft tends to break stuff when introducing new clients like WLM 9. I believe a ticket has been filed.

its just a theory on my part, but is it possible that these contacts are using that new video user picture things, where it runs like a 4 second loop of video captured stuff, I wonder would that cause a problem and just cause adium to not show it

What about people that use wlm 8.5 and older? How does avatars work for them with wlm 9 using contacts?

Hi. I'm having the same problem. I've tested using two accounts one signed in with Adium (I've used both 1.3.2 and 1.3.3b1) and the other signed in with WLM 9. Neither WLM 9 nor either Adium version can see the Avatar of the other.

Interestingly if I change my Avatar in Adium, the Avatar placeholder in the conversation window of WLM 9 briefly flashes which would seem to indicate that it is aware that the Avatar has been changed however the Avatar itself is still not displayed.

Opening a conversation window in WLM9 would normally force a refresh of the other accounts avatar but this does not help either.

What about people that use wlm 8.5 and older? How does avatars work for them with wlm 9 using contacts?

WLM 9 can see avatars from accounts logged in with WLM 8.5, (not sure about older than 8.5) and WLM 8.5 can see avatars from accounts logged into WLM 9. So they are working normally.

Good theory but no, this is happening with ordinary avatars.

Just checked now. Yes that works as well, although WLM 8.5 will display a static representation of the animated avatar.

just checked myself on my vista partition and 8.5 does seem to be able to see the pictures but only a single frame representation as said above, pidgin also can only see the still frame, where as amsn can do the whole 4 second video thing, so I dont think that the new avatars are the problem, i wonder is it in anyway related to that msn server thing from a few days ago?

Interesting. I've just downloaded Pidgin 2.5.4 for Windows and tried that. It wouldn't see avatars from WLM9 at all. I also tried the nightly build of Adium which I believe (could be wrong) is using libpurple 2.5.4 and that couldn't either. Nor could WLM9 see avatars from either of those clients.

That is very odd, as far as I could tell all my contacts could see my picture and I could see theirs but only in pidgin not adium. however I could see users pictures in adium if they weren't the stock ones provided with WLM9

There is a solution to the problem that hopefully will make it in before 1.3.3 final.
