Colors: Use Buddy's Colors Hybrid

Dear developer(s),

As they might say in the orient, "I love you long time." Adium is excessively cool, with way more options than any other chat client that I've ever seen. And it's free. Much thanks. :D

Question: Would it be possible to make an add-on that would allow the user to use the colors of whoever they're talking to, but also *send* a set of colors based upon the buddy?

For example, my friend AIM's me with red text on a black background. My Adium displays it to me based upon my preferences, but when I reply, the background of the user you're messaging *might* match the color of the text I'm sending, which would be unreadable (my black text on top of my buddies black background). What would be really neat is if Adium showed you what colors were being IMed to you, and allowed you to change your *output* accordingly. :D

Interesting idea :) Not sure how one would go about implementing the user interface for this if it were done... care to mock up your concept?

maybe this could be acheived by modding this prefpane I mocked up earlier

evands: Absolutely, give me a second to whip that up in photoshop :)

ravijo: I read through the forums to see if anybody had already suggested this add-on, and yours was by far the closest one I found. =)

The main idea revolves around the colors that are *sent* to the other person -- so that THEY can read your text regardless of your personal settings.

I'll go mock this up for you. :D

Didn't Adium 1.x have this? Not only could it automatically change your bg color to be the same as your buddy's, but it could also change your text color to a more readable one. For example, if your default is black text on white bg, and someone with a black bg IMs you, it automatically sets your sending colors to red text (for example) on black bg. I could be mixing that up with another app...though I'm pretty sure it was Adium 1.x.

Yup, it was an Adium 1.x feature. It didn't work perfectly, but it wasn't too shabby.

And thoughts of keeping it around? *puppy eyes*

Not really a matter of 'keeping it around'... Adium 1.x bears little relation to Adium X besides the name.

I'm not sure if this has a place in Adium proper... perhaps someone would like to develop an external plugin which adds the support?

I would LOVE to see this implemented. It was one of my favorite things about Adium 1.x

I second that. I would gladly invest the time to make the plugin if I had the programming expertise.
