I am embarrased to even ask this type of question, but here goes;

All connections over Microsoft Messenger are handled behind Microsofts secure servers, right?

So am I right in assuming that there is no way to reveal the IP adress of someone you engage a conversation with via Adium X -> MSN connections?

If there was some kind of direct connection, then I suppose I could just monitor my osx network traffic and see the IP there somewhere?

Negative. If you are trying to help troubleshoot something with them, you can have them go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ to get the ip for you easily.
