The latest version has ads, though there was one version (I think it was 3.5 something like that) that had the option to disable it.

And the MSN client sucks in general. Both the Win and the mac version.
We'll see how the new "metall" MSN for OS X will be like.
I doubt that it will have anything compared to what Adium will/has.

For the sake of precision:

The option to disable the ad banner in MSN for Mac is there when Office is installed on the same machine.

I actually just updated it today! Now, you have the option to COMPLETLY replace all the Adium Ducks with MSN Messenger icons. It's not that I don't like Adium, it just makes it more consistent that way, instead of mixing ducks and non-ducks.

I know. It's not that I dislike the Adium Duck (pigeon) it's more that I dislike inconsistencies. Once I changed my status icons to MSN icons, I had to change the menubar duck to an MSN icons, and it snowballed from there. I find it looks like how MSN would look like had they tried to emulate iChat's design. So it's kind of in the middle. And as an added bonus, I get to chat with everybody, no matter their service and get to benifit from all the cool features that Adium has to offer!
