multiple status, pictures and name

Post by DaveCarson »

hi,

I recently discovered Adium and I really like how it supports that many chat protocols.
But something I don't like is that the chat name and status is centralized.
Is there a possiblity to have sepearete windows for different chat protocols? So it behaves like 3 chat programs as far as the windows are concerned?
It would be much easier to manage different statuses and names.

sorry if this is trivial in any sense. I'm new to Adium and I'm not sure if I really got the concept yet but managing different "identities" seems very odd to me ...

You can have all the users from each account/protocol in different groups and then group all chats from each group in different windows(Accounts->Organize tabs into new windows by group). I think you can also split the contact window so that there is one for each group by dragging the groups out of the contact list. You can change nick for the different protocols in account settings and you can use the status menu to set different statuses for each account.

first of all thanks Dimmuxx ...

my problem is the "header" where you can see and change your name, picture and status. This "header" is centralized which means if I make a change there it applies to all of my accounts.
yes I can display all my contact groups separately but this doesn't change the function of the "header".
and true, I can change my nick in the account settings and the status inside some menu ... but it just seems odd, as if it's not meant to be used that way.

what I'd like to achieve is basically having a header for every account ...
