Just Starting & A Little Confused

I have friends that use both AIM and Yahoo Messenger. I have accounts with both. On my Adium buddy list all my AIM people are listed by my Yahoo friend isn't. When I tried to add my Yahoo friend again on the Adium Add Contact screen I couldn't click Yahoo. Only AIM was highlighted and could add. How can I add my Yahoo friend to Adium? What I am also confused about is whether I need to have the Yahoo Messenger program downloaded onto my Mac to be able to chat with my friend through Adium? Or as long as I have my Yahoo account info and my friend's, all I need is the Adium program installed?

You should be able to select Yahoo as contact type in the add contact window if you are logged in with your yahoo account. You have added your yahoo account to Adium right?
