Weird Adium Problem (keeps putting me on invisible)

Post by ::Lisa:: »

Hello there,

For the past two days I've had a strange problem with my Adium. It keeps putting me on Invisible mode even though I haven't asked it to. Then at a random time later it puts me back as Available and so on for the past two days. I'm not sure what is wrong with it but I can see myself appear to log out although I'm still online and either browsing the net or still chatting. I do not disconnect in any way, it is very odd! When it states I am 'offline' I have looked at the status bar and that still states I am set to the iTunes status not invisible etc.

I have attempted to removed Adium and all its files using AppZapper and installed it again from a fresh but it is still doing it. I'm not sure where to go from here or how to fix this since I'm not being disconnected or physically booted from it. I'm gutted that this hasn't fixed it and therefore now lost all my custom adjustments (dock icons, etc) too.

Thanks,
Lisa

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that this is on MSN. Although, could be AIM/.Mac also but I cannot tell on that one.

Have you been using MSN with another client (WLM or the like)?

I'm sorry you lost your preferences.
Next time, if you want to check whether a problem is related to your preferences just follow the instructions in http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/Preferences ... references.

No, nothing. But if I did it would actually disconnect me and say I signed in somewhere else. It's not doing that, it is just making me appear offline to everyone yet I can still chat throughout *shrug*

Thanks.

I have heard other people reporting this too, have you ever used your account with Windows Live Messenger 2009? What do you mean when you write "When it states I am 'offline'", does Adium report to you in any way that you are invisible?

Also download http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/CurrentAdiumDebug and provide a debug log of what happens when you become invisible.

Yes I have used WLM 2009 with this account. I have Vista installed under Bootcamp so they can't/don't run and cause a conflict by one coming and cutting the other off, but yes I am but not used Windows in 1-2 weeks and this problem only started 2 days ago but keeps happening frequently.

Adium doesn't report that I am going on invisible mode at all, I do not get any errors or anything in fact. It is like I am still online. The only reason I know it is happening is because either my friends are complaining and suddenly stop talking when they think I've gone offine. And I also have myself added (lol) for this reason due to this so I can actually see myself logging off and signing back on when I am still fully online and still send/receive messages. Although, have noticed today if someone sends an IM at exact time it is so called logging me off, I will not receive it but a few seconds after I do even though still showing as offline? *shrug*

Yes, it is very odd. Is it the official client on Windows, or Mac? I really don't want to go back to using that again, crash city!

I have installed the debugger mode and waited for myself to go offline. As I was going offline, I looked at the debug code and it was updating the buddy list (of me). Some attempts to reconnect are in there too with DNS stuff. Posting below...

Latest official wlm client in windows so this is just a temporary server problem and nothing to worry about it since it happens to the official client as well.

I only see normal behavior in the debug logs btw.

Oops, I forgot to update and reply to this. A day or so later the issue went away by itself.

However, yesterday I went on Windows again on Boot Camp for the first time in a long time and went onto the Windows Live Messenger 2009 version to help a friend with a Windows problem. And now today having the exact same logout/invisible issue come back again. Is this just coincidence?
