OK this bug has been happening for a few versions now, but is now even more annoying in 1.4b4. The basic problem is that many of my contacts never stay in the groups I put them into. When I log back in they always move to some other group. With 1.4b4 this got worse in that a lot of the contacts now show up in multiple groups. So I have to keep rearranging them.
What may contribute to the problem is that I run adium from 2 different mac os x user accounts, and it appears that not all of the groups are the same in both accounts.
Contacts are moved to wrong groups
Re: Contacts are moved to wrong groups
A debug log of the moves not succeeding would be helpful.
Re: Contacts are moved to wrong groups
there is nothing in the logs. The moves work when I move them, but they get rearranged seemingly randomly next time when I launch adium.zac wrote:A debug log of the moves not succeeding would be helpful.
What also may contribute to this issue is that some of those groups were auto created by the jabber server (i guess). So when I move some of the contacts from those groups that were created by jabber, the contacts will get moved out of those groups on next restart.
Re: Contacts are moved to wrong groups
libpurple doesn't throw errors when a move is unsuccessful on the Jabber end, you might just be seeing the Adium "this is going to work, probably, so I'm moving now" being displayed. A debug log would help prove it, but I have the feeling that your Jabber server is set to make it so you can't modify those contacts.
Re: Contacts are moved to wrong groups
I think you're right. Also what appears to cloud things a bit is that some of those jabber contacts were also being seen by my gmail account (didn't know gmail can see jabber contacts), and the group setting is per account so it's possible to have the user in one group for gmail and a different group for jabber. I'll have to play with it a bit more. Thanks for your help.zac wrote:libpurple doesn't throw errors when a move is unsuccessful on the Jabber end, you might just be seeing the Adium "this is going to work, probably, so I'm moving now" being displayed.
