Images in messages

I'm using the jabber part of adium to get updates from a blog. So a post or comment is being delivered to me almost immediately.
But smilies in the blog do not come through as smilies - just the image link.

I don't know if this is the server or the client that is causing this or how to fix it.

Adium doesn't allow external images to be downloaded, as this is a potential security hole (to get the user's IP).
