Dock Icons - what's the next step?

Well, I definitely went and researched it - at least as much as the site allows, as well as searching the forums. I think I understand the code, and I've got it up in TextEdit just as directed. When I have the images I'm pretty sure I can alter the code; the logic seems to make sense to me, even though I'm a total n00b at this programming stuff. (I'm really a designer myself...)
The problem I am having is that I don't understand what to do after the code is all written out. I know you have to package it in some way, but can someone give me all the steps needed AFTER writing the code and gathering the images? Please make sure to include the details too, because I am not going to know if this folder needs to be in this other one or they need to have this exact name or even that you may need to download a third-party program to create files with a certain extension... I really don't want to seem stupid here but since it's my first time, and I couldn't find any information, I thought it would be worth asking.
