disable gmail new mail notifications

How do I disable the gmail new mail notifications when using gtalk (jabber). I go to the options under accounts, and the option for "Mail: Display New Mail Notifications" is checked and greyed out so i can't uncheck it. Is there a way to uncheck it? Adium will pop-up a hundred windows if i dont go to my inbox and mark them all as read. Alternatively how can i make the new mail notifications go to growl instead of an adium pop-up?
Thanks!

I'd also like to disable notifications. I went into Preferences, then Accounts and selected my Gmail/Google Talk account and chose Edit. Under Options, the Display New Mail Notifications box is unchecked, but I'm still getting email notifications.

I'd also like to know how to do this... especially since I have 0 unread emails but Adium always believes I have 51 for some reason.
Thanks!

am having exactly the same problem since latest update.. very irritating. display new mail notifications is unchecked on all of my accounts and it is still always saying i have 3 unread messages, no matter how many unread messages i really have.

It must just be a update error. I have a feeling there'll be an update before we know it

What version of Adium are you'all using?
I'm having almost the opposite problem... In Adium 1.3.5, I have enabled (checked) "Display new mail notifications". Adium then notifies me the next time new email is received -- then stops. No further notifications are received until I quit and relaunch Adium. I can't seem to get it to stay on/active, regardless of that checkbox being checked!

I just updated to the latest version and I still have the problem. I'd be just as happy if I can have the notifications go to growl instead of acutally waiting for me to have to click one of the buttons on the notification window. It's really not that important to know that I have new mail and require immediate action!

Bug confirmed with Adium 1.3.5 for GTalk / GMail accounts. All of our users here have the same issue since the last update.

The notifications you guys are seeing are most likely coming from Facebook.
The
"Known Issues" thread has information about this problem:
- Status: fixed for 1.3.6
- two possible solutions:
- 1. deactivate Facebook in Adium and wait for 1.3.6
2. use the 1.4b8 beta which already has the fix.

I was still seeing this in 1.4b9, but there appears to be an easy fix:
Close Adium, then open up ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/AccountPrefs.plist and search for the following key:
Replace with:
Obviously, you'll need to change that key for the correct account, as all accounts are stored in that file -- but a global search and replace will fix them all. If you need to figure out which account was which, navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Accounts/ and compare the $number.plist filenames to the <key>$number</key> tags in the AccountPrefs.plist file. Seems pretty simple!
