Support for multiple SN's (not what you think)

Okay, since I do a bit of roleplaying with a friend, there is one feature she mentions in her GAIM that I'd like to see. That would be the ability to IM the same person with multiple names. Hard to explain but I'll try. Say if I'm rp-ing one person, she can easily IM them under two SN's of her own. I've tried this in Adium but what happens is I can only use one SN to IM her under her SN. So if she's playing one person, and I want two of my characters to interact with her...it can work in GAIM but not Adium since Adium just sticks with whatever I first IM-ed her under. Could it be possible to do something like what GAIM does for one person with multiple screen names since it's my understanding it displays the person's SN twice for each account that the individual is using. If this doesn't make sense, ask and I'll be happy to clarify. Thanks!

You can double-click her name in your contact list, which will bring up those two pop-up menus at the top of the message window, where you can select which accounts to send from and to. Unfortunately, you'd have to do this each time you wanted to switch which account you were IMing her with.
I don't believe there's any other way to do this currently. Does that method work for you, or is it too inconvenient? How often do you need to switch which account you're talking with? It'd be even harder if you were both using two accounts (characters), so there'd be four different possibilities of which accounts to send to and from.
edit: by the way, are we still asking people to say gaim or Gaim, not GAIM (for copyright reasons, i.e. GAIM is too much like AIM for AOL's taste)?

Well, what happens is when I do switch at first...there's no way to switch back and forth. The popup window disappears for me, so yes it does become inconvenient and not to mention confusing since even if I switch the way you suggested, it's all in one tab. So, just wondering if there'd be a way to implement the way GAIM handles something like this so the conversations between the characters don't combine. In other words, I'd like to keep them separate for each character I'm logged in as. It's me who really has two characters that are messaging one character (hers) if that helps any.

Amusingly, what you're describing is considered a Gaim bug which they've now fixed. So future versions of Gaim will behave as Adium does at present.

Heh, interesting...considering, this is one of those rare bugs I find helpful. Yes, I realize it can potentially clutter up contact lists but I'm taking advantage of this bug since it helps to be able to IM the same person using multiple IM's in mine and my friend's case. Is there any way to convince developers to keep this "bug" in? Or find some way to implement it without it being a hassle? *shrugs* I wouldn't use this under normal circumstances but it helps immensely when roleplaying! Go figure.
I should add...that this bug also prevents us from having to keep track of more AIM s/n's just so we can achieve what we want for our storylines. Besides, icky AOL page! *shudders*

Both for copyright reasons and, even more so, because that's the name of the project... just like we're Adium (adium if you're being lazy) but not the yelling form ADIUM.

I can completely see why this particular 'bug' would be useful in your situation, but unfortunately you're in a very minority position with your use for it... to be blunt, I don't see this becoming a preference in Adium. Sorry

How about the "message" toolbar button? A click of that in the toolbar of a conversation window always used to bring up the popup menus for me.
