hey. i've got the same problem too. i think the problem started when i accidentally pasted a whole conversation into the "add a contact" window. from then on, it just went haywire. tried reinstalling, uninstalling. just didn't work for me. tried it on my sister's macbook which uses "msn messenger" and it works fine. my macbook pro just can't use the msn messenger.
i really appreciate some help here. been trying for a couple of days now. thanks.

Macnudo, try deleting !c3c9dffbbc836nooo836hesjustinsane836dontlistentohimlol836inoneearandouttheother836hyatuso@hotmail.co.uk.
wicked, you should also try to delete that "contact" you created.
Does that help?

Could you post a debug log like Macanudo did?
The most important lines would probably be those following "FQY error 241". See
http://trac.adium.im/wiki/CurrentAdiumDebug for instructions.

There is no mention of MSN in the log, just Facebook...

This might be fixed in 1.4b9 and if you don't wanna wait for that you should download the latest adium-1.4 branch and compile it yourself. You can also make a ticket on pidgin's trac(
http://developer.pidgin.im) about it and provide a debug log.

Yep, looks like it hasn't been fixed in b9.
Edit: More information in the stickied "Known Issues" thread!

I don't get this at all. My account gets stuck at 100% Retrieving Buddy List.
Weird thing is, I can sign on using Adium with any other MSN account, or my AIM account.
Even weirder, I can sign onto MSN account using any other MSN program, aMSN and the official MSN.
I've tried complete reinstall.
I've tried via Http.
I've checked my password.
Tried the different encryptions.
I feel out of options.
Am I the only person experiencing this?

People with this issue have some weird contact(s) that makes the login process fail. There are a few examples in this thread.
Some have been able to remove the contact(s) causing the problem but not all as we can also see here.

Cheers. Do you know what specifically about the contacts causes this? And how this can be resolved in the next version?
Btw i'd like to thank the creators of adium for making what I think it by far the best IM program to date. It's the most organised, compact, clean looking software, yet runs smoothly and lets you communicate through all types of IM accounts.
Ill check which contacts have errors for me, Cheers for working on the issue
