Adding a contact to Dock?

Is it possible to add a contact to my dock? I use Adium mostly to chat with this one person, so it would be awesome if i can add a contact to my dock so that when i click on it, it automatically opens a chat log with that contact. I'm sure this is doable but unfortunately, I know nothing about programming.

You mean a "chat", not a "chat log", right?

I don't think this will be done though I'm not a developer.

If I were you I'd just keep the chat window open. Adium remembers it the next time you open Adium.

Actually, with Adium 1.4 you can (sort of) do this because it associates itself with certain URI types.

To do it you need to create a text file containing the following:

Code: Select all

[InternetShortcut]
URL=xmpp://user@example.org?message
Replace the xmpp with the URI type for the service your contact is using (look them up on google), replace user@example.org with the username of your contact (?message is XMPP specific so may not be needed on your service) and save the file as something like "contactname.url" (you need the .url extension).

Clicking on this file will first open up Safari and then Adium with a new message to your contact. You can add it to the Dock by dragging and dropping in the normal manner but it will need to be on the right-hand side of the Dock, rather than among the apps.

It's a bit of a kludge but it achieves what i think the OP wants to do.

You can also add bookmarks to Safari in the form of xmpp://user@example.org?message for an easy way of firing off a quick message.

I've just tested both methods and they work fine with Adium 1.4b8.
