Basically, it seems that whenever I'm Invisible with a Status Message and the Status Window open, there is an Auto-Responder magically turning itself on, with the text of my current "Status Message" being sent as an Auto-reply. This all happens even though when setting up the Status, I leave the "Auto-reply" unchecked. For some odd reason it still appears to send an automated message - therefore effectively selling me out and blowing the gaff by informing people that I am not, indeed, as much "Unavailable"/"Offline" as I appear to be (as the automated message wouldn't have been sent if I were really Offline).
Oddly enough, it seems that when I go to Adium -> Preferences -> Status and uncheck the last point, "Display status window when away", then it works OK, and whoever writes to me doesn't get an an Auto-reply then - even when I am Invisible with a Status Message. It appears that the combination of "Status Window" with Invisible with a Status Message creates the problem.
Now - my question is: is there any way for me to keep the Status Window (I really like it and use it when "Away" proper), but not have the bizarre Auto-reply come up when Invisible with a Status Message? Or would I have to go through the a bit frustrating (to say the very least) process of going to Adium -> Preferences -> Status, unchecking the last point "Display status window when away" everytime I'd want to appear Invisible with a Status Message, so that - should someone happen to message me - I'm not having the app blowing the whistle on my (un)availability?
I know it's kinda complicated, I tried to describe the problem as clearly as possible. Basically, it's:
Invisible with a Status Message + Status Window = Auto-reply message with the Status Message automatically ON (even when, technically, the Auto-responder hasn't been set up)
Invisible with a Status Message sans Status Window = Invisible proper, i.e. without any automated reply on my side (unless I have set it up myself)
If something is still unclear, please let me know - I'll be more than happy to get through it all again.
Many thanks for your help,
