copy-pasting

Post by solistus »

How difficult would it be to make a message layout that handles copy-pasting better? I want it to display like most layouts do now (group consecutive messages by the same sender with the person's name at the top of the cluster) but have each copy-pasted line show name <timestamp> : message or something along those lines on one line of text. It's really annoying when I c-p and each IM takes up 3 lines with spacing in between...

Why not copy out of the log viewer?

The Log Viewer is more inconvenient to use for quick pasting jobs, since it takes a couple seconds to open, and if you want to keep pasting things from an ongoing conversation, you have to close and reopen to the Log Viewer to make it refresh (I think).

Check the xtras site.. several of the text-only styles do a good job with copy/pasting IIRC.

Would it be possible to put a refresh button in the log viewer?

This is totally up to the message style author - I made a point to make textonly copy-paste friendly, and I know mathuaerknedam did the same with his views. I would recommend prodding (or e-mailing) your favorite message style's creator, or playing with the HTML yourself.
