"Now Playing" looking wrong in PC's

Hi,
I'm using Adium (1.3.6) and my friends (that are using PC's) can't see my Current Song the right way.
When I use the Messenger:Mac they see the my music correctly.

Look that example:

There's a way to fix that (xtras, plug-ins, etc...)?

Thanks,

guilherme

(Sorry for my bad english, I'm Brazilian.)

How are you sending the song information? Is it by using the iTunes status or by using the official method?

The WLM/MSN (and XMPP/Jabber) protocol supports sending current song information without using the iTunes status. If i can remember correctly in Adium 1.3.x the option is located in Preferences/Advanced/MSN. In 1.4 the option is under Preferences/Accounts/ACCOUNTNAME/Privacy.

Once you set this option to on song information should be sent when you have an available status (i'm not sure if it works when you have an away status or not).

I only have one contact that uses MSN and it seems to work fine with her, although i'm not sure what it looks like at her end.

I'm sending my current song information through Adium (1.3.6), choosing the "♫ iTunes" option at the Status menu. I'm not using any downloaded plug-in to do that.

This way, my friends see my song in text-only mode with an invalid character (as the image at first post).
When I tested using Messenger:Mac the information appears correctly to they.

I didn't find any options about current song in Preferences menu. The only option at Pref/Advanced/MSN is "Display custom emoticons".
I've tried the test changing this option, but I had the same results.

Can someone help me?

I don't think you'll find a plugin to fix this.

You could file a bug report but sending current song information in your status is a hack anyway, and since the WLM/MSN protocol supports a proper way of sending current tune information i don't know if anyone will get around to fixing it anytime soon.

I had thought that support for the current tune was in 1.3.x, but perhaps it isn't. Try downloading the latest 1.4 beta.

Then check the box in "Preferences/Accounts/YOURMSNACCOUNT/Privacy/Let others know what iTunes is playing". Then use the Available status and not the iTunes one.

Thanks, it works but it's extremely annoying have to go to Privacy at the account preferences everytime I want to disable or enable it.

I've submitted 2 tickets (13261 and 13269) but no one wants to fix this. The devs have "no plans to change this behavior".
They said it's not an Adium bug, but IT IS. Why "Let others kwon what I'm listening..." option works and "♫ iTunes" don't?
If it's a Windows font problem, how Windows can decode the symbol when I choose "Let others..."?
If it's a Windows font problem, it's supposed to don't work anyway.

What makes me dissapoited is the fact that the solution is already built in the app but it's "hidden" at Privacy's preferences. All they need to do is make it usefull, easy to use.
That's why I choose a Mac, not a PC. SImplicity is the word.
I really can't believe they'll keep a fail function on their app, even if the app has a similar function that works perfectly.

I'm so dissapointed and I'm giving up. :'(
The first time I used Adium it was a great surprise and I thought that I've found the perfect MSN client for Mac.
Now I'm using Messenger:Mac. It has a very ugly interface, but it WORKS and this is what matters.

Please call me when devs decides to do the right thing: makes Adium perfect.

"♫ iTunes" has to support multiple protocols since it's just sticking your track info into your status. Perhaps there is no common ♫ character that can be used with different clients and that's why it doesn't work.

When you set the "Let others..." option it isn't sending the ♫ character, it's simply sending the track information. Since sending the track information is part of the underlying WLM (and XMPP) protocol the client at the other end will know what to do with the information and will add the ♫ character itself.

The way it is done is the correct way of doing it, even the Windows version of WLM does it the same way (there's an option to send the track info in preferences). Track info should be sent as part of the protocol, not as part of the status since they're unrelated.

What about all the things that don't work with Messenger:Mac that do with Adium? Things like: Offline messages, sending and receiving custom emoticons. Using a vastly inferior client because of a missing character really seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face, but that's your choice i suppose.
