MSN contacts shown as offline but they are online

Hi,
since some days I see some contacts as offline even if they are online. If I connect using MSN Messenger I see them online correctly. What's going on ? :? I also tried adding/removing the contact but it doesn't help.

Thanks,
Tex

You should submit a debug log at http://d.pidgin.im to see if they can diagnose and fix the issue. You should also try the latest beta version of adium, http://beta.adium.im

I'm using the latest beta ... but I"m not sure if the problem is related to Adium anymore. I'm trying on Windows with WLM and it also seems strange. I let you know.

I reported the same issue with the betas.

I don't have a large sample, but it looks like the people that are offline are using Adium. Those that show up correctly aren't.

Hi,
in my case I tried the beta and the 1.3.8 and it still the same. The contacts that I can't see are not using Adium.

Tex-Twil, are those contacts using Windows Messenger, the program that is built in in WindowsXP/SP2?
I use Windows7 with WLM2009.
If a contact with Windows Messenger signs in, he appears online for a second and right after that he appears offline, althought he didn't sign off or set his status to "show offline/invisible".

I'm asking right now a contact to update to WLM2009 to see if it will work better.

EDIT: now I see the contact online. So it seems that it could be related.

I dropped WLM today and installed Pidgin, the Windows-brother of Adium.
The same issue occurs with the Windows Messenger contacts.
So it is indeed a Windows Messenger problem.
Well, glad to be back in the Adium/Pidgin-family. :)

There is a similar set of threads in the beta forum (http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=21449, among others).

This happens when I use either :
- adium
- pidgin (LInux)
- ebuddy
- MSN Web Messenger

When I use WLM it works fine.

... I know that it looks like it is beyond the topic of Adium but do you have an idea what could be the reason ? It is very annoying

I think (and hope) that I found a solution. I logged in to MSN with WLM and removed and added the problematic contacts again. Now I see them correctly.

How odd. I'm glad you found a workaround.
