unable to connect to MSN

Post by 80-N »

Hello guys!
a couple days ago it started to be loooongggg to log on Msn but today I can't login at all
I tried everyhting( restarting my router and wifi, HTTP login, non-http login, i tried changing my password, restarting my computer, changing the port, etc.
Nothing worked! It just says "authentification: 75%" and gets stuck there...

I'm currently using the 1.4 beta (but I tried with the non-beta version and it wasn't working)

Is there anything I can do to log on my MSN
I also tried logging in with Messenger for mac and aMSN but neither worked...

please, it's relly annoying! >_<"

Thanks!

i've got a similar problem that may have started when 80-N posted as i wasn't using adium for a couple of weeks. has there been a port change for msn lately?

if so, where to go to find out which port to use now? for future reference.

thanks!

I would wait it out a few days and see if it isn't a server issue. Personally, MSN is working fine, but it is quite usual that MSN is having trouble, hence the recommendation of waiting a few days.

If it does continue though, search Trac to see if the issue has been filed, and otherwise open a new ticket.

Probably not a good idea since connection issues are libpurple issues. =-)

i was able to solve my main connection problem by going over the account preferences for MSN, where i discovered that under the Options menu, for some reason the Connect via HTTP box was unchecked. really i had never noticed what the default setting was for this box, and cannot tell you if it was ever checked or always unchecked before now. all i can tell you is when i checked it, MSN finally connected, although i did have to authenticate my password a couple of times.

meantime, my console continues to give me this message:

** (process:7932): CRITICAL **: purple_presence_set_status_active: assertion `status != NULL' failed

is that related to MSN connection at all? i was getting this message while i was experiencing conneciton issues, and it still appears in console now that i've solved them. should i be concerned?

thanks.

I have been told that console entry is nothing to worry about. Search the forums for it and you'll find that I've said that a few times previously. =-)

Guys!! I can connect in the Adium 1.3.10!

Tutorial:

1. Make login with your account in the microsoft messenger and save your list of contact in the your desktop.

2. Open the file created (xxx.ctt) with the "text editor". You will see something as:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<messenger>
<service name="Windows Live Messenger Service">
<contactlist>
<contact>xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com</contact>
<contact>xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com</contact>
<contact>xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com</contact>

3. Search the contacts that have "t="32" ou t="2"". Save them in another windows of TextEditor. Generally they are yahoo's accounts. Example:

<contact t="32">xxxxxxxx@yahoo.com</contact>
ou
<contact t="2">xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com</contact>

4. Came back to MicrosoftMessenger and delete them. Quit MicrosofMessenger.

5. Make login in the Adium 1.3.10. and wait it connect. You will see the Adium's windows with message about your contacts, say not! Now you can add the contacts previously deleted again!

Now i can connect my account MSN normally in Adium 1.3.10. I hope you can too!

Sorry for my bad english =/
