Google chat statuses

So, I thought it was just a Jabber limitation that Google Talk was unable to show contacts as anything other than "Available" or "Away" (completely ignoring the "Idle" state) - however, as you can see, iChat is able to handle this just fine. Is there any way to get this working in Adium?

That seems absurd. So a ticket is just closed because "we're waiting on Libpurple"? How is iChat able to do this and not Adium? Seems like this ought to be a priority to implement (somehow, libpurple or not) as it pretty much makes checking availability on GChat useless.

Did you read the ticket properly? Apparently, there is some disagreement on whether this is even a bug.
Libpurple provides all the connectivity on network level so that's where the change would have to be made. That's all and not very absurd if you think about it.

That's true, and I suppose I shouldn't take my anger out on the Adium ducky.. he didn't do anything wrong, after all. Time to go yell at the libpurple instead

P.S. If anyone else wants to go make this problem known to the Pidgin people, I've posted a reply in this (closed?! WTF) trac ticket - let's make someone over there listen:
