Have been using Adium Beta with Facebook/Jabber for Facebook chat successfully for a few weeks now (using the official facebook instructions). However a couple of days ago it stopped working. I'm getting this error:
The strangest thing is that peoples messages from Facebook come through as you can see to the right, but I can't reply as it's in 'offline' mode. The regular Facebook chat log-in on on adium is working, but the Jabber version had all my convos so I'd prefer to continue using that!
I tried to connect using iChat too and that didn't work. If no one else is having this problem, does that means there's a problem with my computer? What could that be? Going to try another mac now...
No connection changes but have done some more troubleshooting.
I can connect to a different facebook account through jabber, but not my main one. I also had the same result on an older mac. I've also tried beta and regular versions of adium. So the problems seems to be my regular facebook account. Why would that be? I've tried changing password but that hasn't helped. I could change username but id rather not as it can only be done once.
It does work for me, during a conversation, but I've also been seeing problems:
• Adium doesn't automatically open the conversation window.
• Adium gets stuck on the 'User is writing'.

Thanks for the reply. I've gone back to using the standard Facebook plugin and that has improved since I last used it, so that's fine. The one issue I'm stuck with now is past conversations I had using Jabber/FB. It's important I can see who I have/haven't chatted to. However in the chat transcripts users are listed as numbers instead of names, even though the name appears in the transcript. Is there a way for me to search for these names? They don't come up when I use the standard search.
Yup, XMPP is totally dead for me too. I get a writing indicator, and that is all.
I just wrote the Facebook team. What a lousy contact site they have...

I'm not sure if this helps, but within the past 24-48 hours, my Facebook-via-Jabber account stopped working in iChat.
First I realized that it (on it's own) decided to use the domain of my email address as the server address instead of chat.facebook.com. No big deal, correctable.
I then logged into my Facebook and went to Account Settings to confirm my Username. Once I did that I double confirmed that I could log into Facebook with just my username (not my email) and my password. That worked.
Now, using chat.facebook.com and port 5222 with SSL off, I still cannot log in. I've tried with my email and my username, neither work and I'm sure my password is correct. There's a definite disconnect somewhere on Facebook's end atm...
I'm using the normal plugin currently, since it works, although reliably.
I could log on just fine with XMPP, and I could receive messages. But I couldn't send messages... Weird thing is, that it works fine for others (I tested this with Robby)!
