Since the 1.4 update there are a few of my MSN contacts that I have not seen online (and I don't appear as online in their msn-programmes either).

I have not blocked them. I double checked when I noticed they did not show up, but, they are not blocked. They have not blocked me either.

The one thing I notice that differs them from my other contacts is that they don't have hotmail addresses. For an example, one of the missing people has *@live.se and another has *@spray.se.

So, how do I get them back?

Ive had issues before where users would ocasioinallly and seemingly randomly appear offline when they are on or i would appear offline when not. Also i cant see a user as online unless i add them to my contacts (which isnt a huge problem since i dont often get messages from people i havent added).

Hmm, ok. How did you solve that?

For me it is a kind of a problem, since I can not communicate with these friends through adium.

And, to sum it up.

They are in my contact list, I am in their contact list. None of us has blocked or banned the other. They look like they are offline at all times, even when I know for sure that they are online. And, on their side, it looks like I am offline too.
The ones I have noticed that this happens with, are people who don't have hotmail addresses for their msn account.

I'm having the same problem. I've deleted the contact and readded them, and it shows that they sign online, but once I log offline and log back in, or if they log offline and log back on, their status goes back to being offline again. It has been doing this for a couple of my contacts and it's really inconvenient. I haven't found a way to fix it yet either.

I reported this problem over a year ago in the betas. The bug is in the libpurple library used for connecting to IM hosts, so the devs here closed it without explanation.

I have the same problem since... months ago. I tried to deal with it but jeez, I'm sick of that.
I can see those contacts when I sign in from Windows but not in Mac...

Ok.
And my computer is a mac. So is my parents computer, but now when I think of it, ithas been a while since I used adium on the computer there. That means it has an earlier version of adium...

Hmm. Can I downgrade adium to an older version somehow? My buddies disappeared in the last big update.

Make sure you haven't accidentally blocked people. Check Adium - Privacy Settings.

Yeah, it shows the people who should be blocked.
But still, the people who shouldn't be blocked, aren't showed in the contact list.

I tried downgrading to an earlier Adium version... it was the same.

Thanks Robby, but that was one of the first things I checked when I noticed people were missing. I have two blocked contacts, and those are not the ones missing, just like fagkitty said.

Oh, so downgrading does not work? Too bad.

I am also experiencing this issue.. it's happened several times.
I switched from amsn to Adium, and all new contacts I have added to adium appear offline when they are really online. I can't message them online I start a 'multiuser chat' - and if the chat is idle for too long, i have to reopen it to get the conversation going again.

Same bug here... can't see online budy after add.

Solution: open Microsoft Messenger and login with your account. It will show a confirmation to add the contact. Add and it will be ok.

I downloaded microsoft messenger for mac, installed it, logged on and added the missing people, and when I started adium again, one of the missing ones was visible and online for the first time in months. Yay!
